License agreement

This agreement covers every plugin you buy from us. It is written to be read, not to be got past, so it is short and it says what actually happens.

In it, "we" and "us" mean [TO CONFIRM: trading name and legal entity], and "you" means the person or business named on the order.

What you are buying

A licence to run one plugin on one live domain, together with twelve months of updates and support from the date of purchase.

You are not buying the plugin itself. We keep the copyright. You get a licence to use it, which is broad enough to cover everything a traffic exchange owner reasonably needs to do with it.

The one domain, and the free ones

Your licence activates on a single live domain.

Development and staging do not count against that. Anything at localhost, 127.0.0.1, a private IP address, a hostname with no dot in it, or a domain ending .test, .local, .localhost, .example or .invalid activates as a development seat and is never counted. You can keep a staging copy of your exchange running the plugin for as long as you like, at no extra cost.

If you move your exchange to a new domain, deactivate the old one and activate the new one. There is no charge for moving, and no limit on how often you do it.

What happens after twelve months

The plugin keeps working. It does not stop, expire, phone home for permission, or degrade.

What ends after twelve months is your access to new versions and to support. The version you have stays yours, on that domain, indefinitely.

If a renewal price is offered for a plugin, renewing is optional and only ever buys you another period of updates and support. It never buys the right to keep running what you already paid for, because you already have that.

If our licence server is unreachable

Nothing happens to your exchange.

Each plugin caches its last good licence answer and trusts that cache. If we are down, being migrated, or gone entirely, the plugin carries on. A lapsed or unrecognised licence stops updates and support, never the plugin.

This is deliberate and it is a term of this agreement, not just a current behaviour: we will not ship a licence check that can take a customer's exchange offline. You are running a live site with real members on it, and a vendor's server problem must never become your outage.

What you may do

• Install and run the plugin on your one live domain, plus as many development and staging copies as you need.
• Read, audit and modify the source. Nothing we ship is encoded, obfuscated or compiled. If you need it to behave differently on your exchange, change it.
• Keep your own backups of the files.
• Keep running a modified copy after your updates period ends.

We would rather you told us what you changed, because it often becomes a setting in the next version. You are not obliged to.

What you may not do

• Redistribute, resell, sublicense, or give the plugin to anyone else, modified or not.
• Publish the source, in whole or in substantial part, anywhere public.
• Run one licence on more than one live domain.
• Share your licence key.
• Remove or defeat the licence client in a copy you then pass on. (Removing it on your own install is your business — see above. Removing it in order to redistribute is not.)

If you run several exchanges, buy a licence for each. They are priced as one-off purchases precisely so that this is affordable.

Support

Support means help getting the plugin working correctly on a supported platform, and fixing it when it does not. It runs for twelve months from purchase.

It does not cover writing custom features, debugging unrelated parts of your exchange, or fixing problems caused by changes you made to the source. Those are welcome as a custom commission instead.

If something is wrong with it

If a plugin does not do what its product page says it does, tell us and we will fix it or refund you. That is the substance of our promise, and the refund policy sets out the window.

Beyond that, the plugin is provided as it is. We cannot warrant that it will be free of every defect, or that it will suit a purpose we have not described.

Limits on liability

Our total liability to you, for any claim connected to a plugin or to this agreement, is limited to what you paid us for that plugin.

We are not liable for lost profit, lost credits, lost members, lost data, or business interruption.

Two things make that limit fairer than it may read. You get the source, so nothing is a black box you cannot inspect before you trust it. And the licensing genuinely cannot take your site down, so the largest risk a licence check normally carries does not exist here.

Nothing in this section limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Ending it

You may stop using a plugin at any time.

We may end your licence if you redistribute the plugin, publish its source, or use one licence across multiple live domains — and only after telling you what the problem is and giving you a reasonable chance to put it right. If we end a licence for one of those reasons, no refund is due.

If we stop trading, your licence continues. The plugin keeps working, because it does not depend on us being here.

Changes to this agreement

We may update this agreement for plugins bought in future. The version in force when you bought a plugin is the one that governs that purchase. We do not apply new terms retroactively to something you already own.
